Ich bitte zererst kurz um eure Aufmerksamkeit! Also, ich habe mich entschlossen weiterhin auf Deutsch, Englisch und Italienisch zu schreiben auch wenn das von wordpress.com abegstraft wird und diese mehrsprachigen Blogs dann nicht in den Topics vom Reader erscheinen, weil ich einfach denke, dass die Leser auf diese Weise besser motiviert werden können sich auch mit Fremdsprachen und anderen Kulturen zu befassen, als wenn man sich immer nur auf eine einzige Sprache konzentriert. Ich muss deshalb die negativen Konsequenzen in Kauf nehmen!

Allora, ho deciso di scrivere anche in futuro in tedesco, inglese e italiano, anche se per questo, i blog multilinguistici sono puniti da wordpress.com e non appaiono nei topics del Reader, perché penso che scrivendo in varie lingue i lettori possono essere meglio motivati di occuparsi di altre lingue e culture di quando ci si concentra unicamente ad un’unica lingua. Dovrò  quindi accettare le conseguenze negative!

I’ve therefore to accept the negative consequences!

MIT DEM LETZTEN SCHIFF

Ich hatte kürzlich die Gelegenheit, an einem wunderschönen, heissen Sommerabend auf dem Monte Verità, Ascona, an einer Konferenz teilzunehmen, während der Eveline Hasler ihr neustes Buch “MIT DEM LETZTEN SCHIFF” vorstellte. Sie las uns daraus vor oder erzählte uns von den darin vorkommenden Personen und ihren Schicksalen, die ein bisschen sehr vergessen wurden. Obwohl hier eine dunkle Seite der Geschichte beleuchtet wird, gibt es natürlich sehr viele positive Geschehnisse.

Ho ultimamente avuto l’occasione, una bellissima serata estiva sul Monte Verità, Ascona, di assistere ad una conferenza durante la quale la scrittrice, Eveline Hasler ha presentato il suo ultimo libro „MIT DEM LETZTEN SCHIFF“. Ci ha letto dal libro oppure ci ha letto estratti dal libro oppure ci ha spiegato di più sui personaggi che incontriamo nel libro e dei loro destini.
Benché la scrittrice illumina un lato scuro della storia nel suo romanzo, ci sono naturalmente tanti episodi positivi.

I’ve lately had the opportunity, on a gorgeous and hot summer evening, to assist, on the Monte Verità, Ascona, Switzerland a conference during which Mrs. Eveline Hasler presented her latest book „ MIT DEM LETZTEN SCHIFF“.She read us excerpts from it or just told us more about the characters from the book and their fates,which have been a little bit too much forgotten. Despite the fact the writer makes light on a dark side of history in her novel,there are many positive episodes.

Das Buch ist, laut der Schriftstellerin, auch eine Homage an die Geschichte des Monte Verità und seinen Künstlern, die von den Tessinern oder Einheimischen immer mit Wohlwollen empfangen worden sind.

Secondo la scrittrice, il libro è anche un omaggio alla storia del Monte Verità e ai suoi artisti che sono sempre stati ricevuti con piacere dalla gente locale.

The author said that with this book she also wanted to pay homage to the history of the „Monte Verità“ and its artists who have always been received very well by the Ticinesi or local people.

Die Hauptperson in diesem Roman heisst Varian Fry. Er war ein hochgebildeter US-amerikanischer Journalist und Freiheitskämpfer, der 1940 vom „Emercency Rescue Committee, einer damals kleinen Organisation, bestimmt wurde nach Frankreich/Marseille zu reisen, um vor allem jüdischen, flüchtigen Künstlern und Intellektuellen zu helfen in die Vereinigten Staaten zu emigrieren. Das Komitee wurde von Anfang an stark von der amerikanischen First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt unterstützt. Fry, der sich für die französische oder griechische Sprache und Kunst interessierte und gerne lateinische Kreuzworträtsel löste, wollte diese Aufgabe unbedingt übernehmen, obwohl er eigentlich keine Ahnung hatte, was ihn erwartete. Es gelang dem Freiheitskämpfer in Marseille ein Rettungsnetz aufzubauen und ungefähr 2000 Verfolgten das Leben zu retten, sie auf Schleichwegen nach Spanien und dann nach Portugal zu bringen.

Il personaggio principale di questo romanzo si chiama Varian Fry. Egli è stato un giornalista degli Stati Uniti molto formato e battagliero per la libertà che nel 1940 è stato nominato dal „Emergency Rescue Committe (Comitato di Soccorso Urgente), un’organizzazione allora molto piccola, di viaggiare in Francia/Marsiglia per aiutare soprattutto gli artisti e intellettuali ebrei d’emigrare negli Stati Uniti. Il Comitato è fin dall’inizio stato molto sopportato dalla First Lady americana, Eleanor Roosevelt.

Fry he si è interessato per la lingua francese e greca e per l’arte e ha fatto volentieri dei cruciverba in latino, ha assolutamente voluto assumere questo compito senza aver la minima idea di quello che lo aspettava.

Il battagliero per la libertà è riuscito a mettere in piedi una rete di salvataggio e di salvare circa 2000 perse guitati, portandogli su sentieri secreti prima in Spagna e poi in Portogallo.

The main character of the novel is Varian Fry. He was a highly educated US-American journalist and freedom fighter, who was sent to France/Marseille in 1940 by the Emergency Rescue Committee, a then very small organisation, which helped, above all, Jewish artists and intellectuals to emigrate to the United States.

The Committee has right from the beginning been intensively supported by the American First Lady, Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt. Fry, who was interested in the French or Greek language and art and enjoyed solving crosswords in Latin, really wanted to take on this commitment, despite the fact that he didn’t have the slightest idea of what expected him. The freedom fighter succeeded in putting up a rescue network and to save the lives of about 2000 persecuted people, to bring them to Spain on secret paths and then onwards to Portugal.

Im Hotel Splendid, wo er nach seiner Ankunft am 16.8.1940 abgestiegen war, wimmelte es von Spionen und sein Name wurde nur geflüstert. Varian machte den Verfolgten Hoffnung und zusammen mit den Helfern wurde Tag und Nacht gearbeitet, d.h. es wurden Pässe besorgt oder Geld, das natürlich auch sehr knapp war. Bei der Ausreise gab es aber ein sehr grosses Problem, denn die Ausreisenden mussten ein Ausreisevisum präsentieren, das sie nicht hatten.

Nell’Albergo Splendid, dove si era fermato dopo l’arrivo al 16.8.1940, era pieno di spie e il suo nome è stato pronunciato unicamente sottovoce. Varian ha dato speranza ai perseguitati e assieme gli aiutanti hanno lavorato giorno e notte, cioè hanno procurato dei passaporti oppure soldi, che naturalmente sono anche stati scarsi. Al confine gli emigranti hanno avuto dei problemi enormi, perché ci voleva un visto d’uscita che non hanno avuto.

Der berühmte Ökonom, Albert, O. Hirschman oder die Malerin und Bildhauerin Miriam Davenport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miriam_Davenport) halfen Varian Fry bei seinen Hilfsaktionen. Da gab es auch „Gussie“, der mit seinem Freund von Danzig per Fahrrad bis nach Toulouse gekommen war. Dort riskierte er von der Polizei wegen Brotdiebstahls verhaftet zu werden. Dank der Hilfe von Miriam Davenport und Rösy Näf, einer glarner Rotkreuzschwester konnte er dann weiter nach Marseille gehen. Er, mit richtigem Namen Justus Rosenberg, der noch immer als Professorin den USA tätig ist, wurde Laufbursche von Fry. Er war der jüngste Helfer von Fry und seinem Team und noch nicht ganz 16 Jahre alt.

Tra le persone salvate c’erano anche Heinrich e Golo Mann, Thomas e Erika Mann sono già stati in America,Franz Werfel, Max Ernst, Marc Chagall, Lion Feuchtwanger, Hannah Arendt, Walter Mehring, uno degli scrittori satirici più famosi e tanti altri.

Il famoso economista Albert, O. Hirschmann oppure la pittrice e scultrice Miriam Davenport

Poi c’è stato „Gussie“, che era venuto con suo amico in bicicletta fino a Toulouse. Lì è quasi stato arrestato dalla polizia, perché avevano rubato del pane. Grazie all’aiuto di appunto Miriam Davenport e Rösy Näf, un’ infermiera della Croce Rossa ha poi potuto continuare per Marsiglia. Egli, con nome corretto di Justus Rosenberg, che ancora adesso è professore negli Stati Uniti, è diventato galoppino di Fry ed è stato l’assistente più giovane di Fry e del suo team, non aveva neanche 16 anni.

 Frau Hasler hat während ihrer Präsentation auch immer wieder auf die enormen Anstrengungen und erzieltenErfolge von Einzelpersonen, wie der Glarnerin und Rotkreuzschwester Rösy Näf hingewiesen, die das Heim„La Hille“ für flüchtige Kinder und Jugendliche führte und es anscheinend geschafft hat manch eines/einenin die Schweiz einzuschleusen.

La signora Hasler, durante la sua presentazione, ha ripetutamente fatto valere il fatto che persone singole si sono impegnate tantissimo e hanno raggiunto dei successi enormi, come per esempio la glaronese, Rösy Näf, un’infermiera della Croce Rossa che ha condotto una casa per bambini e adolescenti in fuga “La Hille” e che sembra sia anche riuscita a far entrare alcuni di loro in Svizzera.

Mrs. Hasler has also hinted several times during her presentation at the strenuous efforts undertaken by single people and the success reached by them or in this case by Rösy Näf from Glarus. a nurse who wor ked for the Red Cross and who was responsible for a home of refugee children and adolescents and seems to have managed to smuggle some of them into Switzerland.

Nach 13 Monaten intensivster Arbeit wurde Herr Fry von der Vichy-Regierung verhaftet und nach Amerika abgeschoben. Nachher hat man von diesem mutigen Helfer nicht mehr viel gehört. Er hat anscheinend sehr darunter gelitten, dass man ihm für seine Hilfe nie gedankt hat und ist an gebrochenem Herzen gestorben. Menschen, die in den USA in Hilfsorganisation arbeiteten wurden nach dem 2. Weltkrieg Kommunisten genannt!

 Dopo 13 mesi di lavoro molto intenso il signor Fry è stato arrestato dal Governo di Vichyed espulso negli Stati Uniti. Dopo di che non si ha quasi più sentito nulla di questo coraggioso salvatore .

Sembra ch’egli abbia sofferto molto per il fatto che non ha mai ricevuto dei veri ringraziamenti per il suoaiuto prestato ed è morto per aver cuore spezzato!

Uomini che hanno lavorato per organizzazioni di soccorso sono stati considerati dei comunisti dopo laseconda guerra mondiale negli Stati Uniti.

After 13 months of very intensive work, Mister Fry was arrested by the Vichy-Regime and sent back to America. After that not much was heard anymore from this courageous helper. He is said to have suffered very much because he has not received thanks for his help and has died of broken heart.People who worked for relief organisations after the second world were considered comunists in the USA .
