MODOU GUEYE & CO created the DJEMBESHOP in 2005 in a handcraft village Guediawaye in the suburb of Dakar. They sell the following, handmade -with goat skin- instruments of quality in whatever quantity:TAM TAM, Djémbé, Sabar, Thioung, Bourgarabous and Tamas. The shop is in a perfect surrounding so that it is also possible to learn how to play the instruments or how to make Djémbés. The decoration, in order to maintain the artistic aspect, is one of the main elements of why the objects in this atelier/shop are so asked for.
The Djémbé is the most famous of the traditional African instruments. It originally comes from the following four countries: Senegal, Burkina Faso, Guinea and Mali. It was used to get into communication and to heal certain illnesses. The BUUR (ROI) or king, for example, used it to inform the people in the villages about death, wedding, baptism and so on. He called the “GRIOT” singer/poet to play the djémbé and to distribute themessage through the various rhythms. The instrument is played for the sick people who suffer because of their bad luck in life and there were special rhythms to separate them from the demons. The name djémbéderives from a big fruit or vegetable called DJEBARA that looks now like a melon.

Le Djémbéshop a été créé en 2005 dans le village artisanal de Guediawaye, qui fait partie de la banlieue de Dakar, par Modou Gueye & Co. Le Djembéshop offre toutes sortes de TAM, faits à la main – en chevreau- de qualité, en quantité : TAM, djémbés, sabars, thioung,
bougarabous, tamas.
C’est aussi le lieu idéal pour tous ceux qui veulent apprendre à jouer ou à fabriquer un djémbé. La décoration, dans le style artistique
traditionnel du pays, est un des éléments qui fait que les objets du Djémbéshop soient très prisés.
Le djémbé est le plus célèbre des instruments traditionnels africains. Il est né dans une zone comprise entre le Sénégal, le Burkina Faso, la Guinée et le Mali. On l’utilisait pour communiquer mais aussi pour soigner certaines maladies, par exemple le BUUR ROI * comme aussi pour annoncer une nouvelle aux villageois, décès, mariage, baptême, etc. On faisait appel aux griots – poète musicien ambulant de l’Afrique noire – spécialistes du djambé, pour faire passer les différents messages à travers différents rythmes. Par exemple pour les malades qui souffraient parce qu’on leur avait jeté un mauvais sort, il y avait un rythme spécial pour chasser leurs démons.

Sie verkaufen handgemachte Instrumente -aus Ziegenleder- und von Qualität und in jeder beliebigen Menge. Es gibt TAM TAM, Djémbés, Sabars, Thioung, Bourgarabous und Tamas. Der Shop ist an einem idealen Ort, um das Spielen der Instrumente zu erlernen oder Djémbés herzustellen.Die Dekoration, um den künstlerischen Aspekt aufrecht zu erhalten, ist eines der Elemente, die es ausmachen, dass die Gegenstände in diesem Atelier/Geschäft sehr gefragt sind.
Das DJEMBE ist das berühmteste der traditionellen afrikanischen Instrumente. Es stammt ursprünglich aus den folgenden vier Ländern: Senegal, Burkina Faso, Guinea und Mali. Man verwendete es, um sich zu verständigen und um gewisse Krankheiten zu heilen. Der “BUUR” oder König, z.B. benutzte das Instrument,um den Dorfeinwohnern eine Nachricht, wie der Tod, eine Hochzeit, die Taufe usw. mitzuteilen. Er rief den “griot”
Sänger/Dichter, den Spezialisten, um Djémbé zu spielen und um die Nachricht mittels unterschiedlichen Rhythmen weiterzuleiten. Man spielt für die Kranken, die leiden, weil sie ein schlechtes Los gezogen haben und, um die bösen Geister zu vertreiben.
Der Name selbst kommt von einer grossen Frucht oder Gemüse, die DJEBARA, die heute einer Melone gleicht.

Modu Gueye & Co ha fondato nel 2005 alla periferia di Dakar una bottega artigianale “DJEMBESHOP” dove vendono e costruiscono ogni sorta di istrumenti musicali (fatti a mano e con pelle di capra) quali TAM TAM, Djémbés, Sabars, Thioung, Bourgarabous und Tamas. La bottega-laboratorio di Guediawaye è pure un luogo ideale per imparare a costruire e suonare questi istrumenti. Le decorazioni artistiche sugli stessi ne fanno un oggetto assai richiesto.
Djembé è il più celebreistrumento musicale tradizionale africano. Gli stessi sono originari del Senegal, Burkina Faso, Guinea e Mali. Venivano usati per comunicare, nonche’ per guarire certe malattie !
Il Buur (il Re) li usava per annunciare alla gente del villaggio un decesso, un matrimonio, un battesimo ecc. Incaricava un (griot)artista/suonatore di djémbè per comunicare: ogni ritmo corrispondeva ad un certo messaggio. Lo djémbè viene pure usato per scacciare la mala sorte! Ritmi speciali scacciano pure i demoni. Il nome djémbè deriva da un frutto o vegetale chiamato DJEBARA che, oggigiorno, assomiglia ad un melone.
