The longer this period of calmness, leisure and time to reflect lasts, the more I become aware of how precious it also is to me, because it can’t be sold as a mass product!
I feel that it becomes more and more something personal and it seems to me that the exaggerated, also as far as distorted beauty of the people is concerned, or trips to some kind of Disneyland or letting ourselves being manipulated by fake news may reach a certain balance. The delicious healthy- with less sugar- dishes, which we have recently produced ourselves may in this way, if maintained, slowly lead to a general slow down and a certain balance or sense and therefore reach a better health situation as well as environment improvement.
I also do ask myself, if we, the human beings, could return in this way from being just “commodities” into which we have been transformed a long time ago, to be just man. Is there a possibility that we can return from a pushed being that continuously has to buy something that is too expensive for him/her or that he/she doesn’t even want to have, in the first place, to be in the end sentenced to death like the man in the famous opera by Berthold Brecht from the year 1930 “Rise and fall of the city Mahagonny”, because he couldn’t pay his debts and where to be poor was prohibited!
Maybe we should again turn more into producers than just consumers and live from what we really produce or create without a bad conscience, if we are not good consumers!
This means that I am convinced that we should take life more into our own hands and not always do what the others want us to do. We should move ourselves as best as we can, get informed in serious ways and make our own conclusions by thinking.
Maybe we should also reread “To be and to Have” by Erich Fromm.

VERY wise words, Martina. I especially liked this line: “The longer this period of calmness, leisure and time to reflect lasts, the more I become aware of how precious it also is to me, because it can’t be sold as a mass product!”

Well, dear David, I think this feeling has developed within myself in the course of the many past months!:) I had to smile a little bit, when you wanted us to think about novels in connection with “food” and i was already preparing this post. In any case I hope it is also about mental food! It was a pleasure to receive your opinion. Have a rich day in this sense. Best regards Martina

“Mental food” — I love that concept, Martina! Yes, a consumerist/materialistic culture is sort of the equivalent of junk food for the brain. Have a great day, too!

Dein Text macht nachdenklich, liebe Martina: danke!
Pit

Also, viel Durchaltekraft! Lieben Gruss Martina

Liebe Martina,

Martina – this is an excellent post that prompted a great deal of thought. These past few months has redefined our priorities. Our world has experienced an economic and social disruption that will continue to influence our choices going forward. Consumerism does not possess the glitter and glamour that was promised. Add to that, we are becoming more mindful and sensitive our environmental footprint. While we will continue to shop, it will be more wholistic. The ramifications of this will be felt in the retail and travel industries. Our economic health cannot be based on an ever increasing demand for more things. Life is precious, health is invaluable, friendships are essential. I love the thought by Virgil “Death twitches my ear; ‘Live,’ he says…I’m coming.”

Your very appreciated words, dear Rebecca, show me that Lit Gauffreau’s post about the impact of other bloggers thoughts and feelings may have on us is so right!:) In respect to your words and cited quote I can say that we have to find a new balace. In this sense I can also mention:”Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored.” — Aldous Huxley. Thank you for your friendship.

Well Martina, you read my post of retiring to your own cave, which means we are tuned in the same frequency, living by myself, now for over twenty-six years, from not liking it, I have come to appreciate the freedom , and peace that being within myself represents.
Great post Martina. 🙂

It’s stange, Mr. Brogido, but this things happen to me in a similar way, which means that my husband and me are happy with this much more quiet life. We enjoy reading books and talking about them and, of course also pondering in what way we can change our life, so that it provokes less waste! And I have to admit that I very much appreciate the contacts and visits by my precious blogger friends:) Very best regards and stay well. Martina

I am not sure I am ready to start producing my own food. But I agree with you that maybe we can use this special period of time to rethink the way a lot of us live. Stop consuming, stop being commodities, as you say, stop thinking only on monetary values and rather think about the deeper values of life. What really matters.

Well, Otto, it can’t probably be expected from everybody to become a sound gardener, but the Denish, which are considered very environment friendly, seem to save millions in the health sector, because people have turned into real “biclycors”! I am therefore convinced that gardening would also be good idea in that respect and new ideas concerning photographing could also come up:) To reflect and change habits as far as our consumeristic systems are concerned seems to be a very good idea.
I thank you very much for your words, it’s not always easy for me to have the courage to pubblish such important topics. Very best regards Martina

I agree, Martina. We need to stop allowing ourselves to be manipulated by the media of all varieties. It’s all about making us obey and consume. Time to turn it off and listen to our own voice, and that of nature. You have used this time for reflection admirably. 🙂Wishing you vibrant health and inspiration.

Dear everybody, I have the feeling that we are more manipulated in this modern world than we were in the past, but is this really true? What do you think!
Many thanks for your thoughts, anyway.:) Martina

Yes we should try to produce more instead of just consuming, this is one of the reasons I got into organic farming.
